TURIN GETS READY FOR LA MEZZA AND LA DIECI DI TORINO

TURIN GETS READY FOR LA MEZZA AND LA DIECI DI TORINO

Turin is getting ready for La Mezza and La Dieci, the much-awaited running event that draws thousands of runners to the heart of the city every year. It’s less than a month until the start of the two most popular races in Piedmont, on Sunday 13 April. The event, supported by the City of Turin and the Piedmont Region, is once again one of the highlights of the road-racing calendar, bringing together sport, passion and the promotion of the local area.

TENTH EDITION: A CHALLENGE FOR EVERY RUNNER

2025 will be a special edition, marking the tenth anniversary of a race that has grown in numbers and prestige year after year.

The event is also on the World Athletics calendar as an International GAA Approved race, a recognition of its importance on a global level. One significant figure is where the athletes come from: 20% of participants come from outside Piedmont, making a real contribution to the growth of the local tourism and hotel sector.

On 13 April 2025, test yourself over the distance you prefer and enjoy a unique experience in the heart of Turin!
La Mezza di Torino, the Turin Half Marathon, is waiting for you with its 21.097 km through the city’s most iconic streets. The start and finish are in the magnificent Piazza Castello, one of the symbols of Turin, for an unforgettable day of sport and passion for running.

As well as the half marathon, the programme includes La Dieci di Torino, a race for those who want a shorter but equally exciting distance.

TWO COURSES IN THE HEART OF THE CITY

Both races are run on city courses completely closed to traffic, so participants can run in total safety, surrounded by the beauty of Turin.

  • La Mezza di Torino (21.097 km) passes some of the most striking spots in the city, taking runners on a real journey through Turin’s history and culture.
  • La Dieci di Torino (10 km) is a fast course, perfect if you want to improve your personal best or enjoy a dynamic run in one of Italy’s most fascinating cities. It comes in Competitive and Non-Competitive versions, so everyone, from racers to casual runners, can choose the option that suits them best.

Both races start at 8:30 from Via Po, near Piazza Castello.

“It isn’t just a race, it’s a journey through the city’s history, art and beauty. It’s the spring classic that opens Base Running’s events season,” said Alessandro Giannone, president of Base Running A.S.D., the sports association that organises the event.

STUDENTS TAKE CENTRE STAGE: LEARNING THROUGH SPORT AND EVENT ORGANISATION

As is tradition, this year Base Running A.S.D. is again actively involving students from several local schools, giving them the chance to take part in the event in a practical, educational way. Participating schools include the Liceo Classico e Musicale Cavour in Turin, the Liceo Juvarra in Venaria Reale and ITS Turismo Torino in Via Carlo Alberto, which are taking part through Italy’s school work-experience programme (PCTO).

Students from all the schools involved work as race and runner assistants, supporting the organisers with the following tasks:

  • Handing out bibs to participants
  • Running the bag drop
  • Handing out finish refreshments to athletes at the end of the race
  • Staffing the aid stations along the course
  • Presenting medals to every finisher

This experience is an important opportunity for hands-on learning, allowing students to gain skills in sports event management. Their involvement is part of the school work-experience programme (PCTO), in accordance with Article 1, paragraph 785, of Law 145/2018.
